I can truly say Camp Laurel is my favorite place in the world. I started camp when I was 7 turning 8 in the 2009 summer. I have recently finished my 8th and final summer as I was a Super Senior. Laurel has taught me how to be a leader and has let me grow into the person I am today. I am eternally grateful for all the love and support from the Laurel family that is really like nowhere else. Camp Laurel has given me opportunities I never knew I was capable of which I will always be thankful for. I am proud to now and forever be a Laurel camper.
My two sons are counting down the days until their 4th summer at Laurel begins. There are so many options out there, and I truly feel like we hit the jackpot with Laurel. While the facilities are second to none and beyond impressive, that is not what makes Laurel so special. The best part about Laurel are the people, beginning with the directors Jem and Debbie Sollinger. My kids truly love Jem. The attention that Jem gives to each camper is remarkable. He is front and center in everything going on at camp. While I'm not there to witness myself, the daily scroll through the photos paints a great picture. And it doesn't stop with Jem - the staff training is incredibly thorough and intentional. They really know how to work with kids. One of my sons struggled with some cabin relationships, but the connection he had with his counsellors and campus leaders was exactly what he needed to navigate through.
Laurel offers a very comprehensive range of sports and non-sports activities, balanced with the traditional summer camp activities and events you imagine. The staff makes sure these choices are not overwhelming and both kids love having access to all the activity choices camp offers. In addition, the experienced and deep staff – from Jem, Debbie and Keith, to the head counselors, campus leaders, bunk and activity counselors - are always enthusiastic and inclusive. They are all knowledgeable and skilled instructors of the activities they run. The facilities, courts and playing fields cover every area of interest and are very well maintained. We look forward to each evening’s photo posting, getting a smile or action shot. Camp Laurel is their summer home.
i started camp laurel in 2015 when i was 11 and i was very scared to be away for so long. the minute i arrived at camp laurel i was so welcomed and i never felt scared anymore. i was automatically included. i felt that i was immediately part of the Laurel family. the consistent attention and love from the counselors is incredible. i think camp laurel is such a special place to be because you make bonds that last forever even through the school year. camp laurel has opened me up to many activities in which i thought i would never try, it's just a wonderful and tranquil place to be. i look forward to coming back as a Super Senior 2018 next year. camp laurel is my home.
Camp is a regular conversation topic in our house and each year they come back giving their summer a 10/10. They truly live "10-4-2"!
My wife and I are very happy that our daughter and son spend their summers at Camp Laurel. It is a community where they are able to explore new activities, make new friends and, in the process, gain maturity, confidence and independence.
Since the day camp ended last summer, our daughter has been looking forward to the first day of this coming summer. She constantly talks about the friends she made, the activities she loved (especially Dance, Rock Climbing, and Theater), and most significantly, the counselors she adored, admired, and idolized. It is the people at Camp Laurel that make it so special; from Jem and Debbie, the Directors, to the athletics and arts instructors to the cabin counselors – everyone at Camp Laurel cares deeply about ensuring the campers are well-cared for, loved, and have the best summer camp experience. As parents, we could not be happier about sending our daughter to Laurel. We know that she will be safe and over-the-moon happy. The facilities are second to none, there are so many fun activities that are offered, and even the food is amazing. In addition, we can promise you that Laurel pays attention to all of the details – from a top-notch Health Center to an unbelievable Visiting Day experience. Finally, what is not to love about Maine? The Laurel campus is on a beautiful lake set in the woods of Maine – it is awesome. We cannot imagine a better place to send your child for the summer and strongly recommend Camp Laurel!
